Introduction: The Sayre Outpatient Clinic is a Community Based Clinic under the jurisdiction of the VA Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre, PA. Also under the same jurisdiction is the VA Outpatient Clinic in Allentown, PA, and a new outpatient facility which opened in June, 1997, in Williamsport, PA.

Mission: The Sayre VA's mission is to make VA Healthcare more accessible to veterans in the Northern Pennsylvania and Southern New York counties. The Sayre Outpatient Clinic will also be the principal advocate to all veterans in ensuring that they receive the healthcare and benefits earned in service to this nation.

Vision: The Sayre VA's vision is to provide a comprehensive array of healthcare services to eligible veterans on an ambulatory basis.

Background: The Sayre Outpatient Clinic became operational in December 1983, and was initially established on the Guthrie Clinic/Robert Packer Hospital campus. On June 23, 1997, the clinic relocated and is now housed in its own more spacious building which is situated at 301 N. Elmira St., Sayre, PA.

The Clinic was initially established to provide outpatient service to honorably discharged veterans living in Bradford, Susquehanna, Tioga, Broome, and Chemung counties.

Additionally, according to the latest statistics, the catchment area has also expanded to Potter, Sullivan, Wyoming, Chenango, Schuyler and Tompkins counties.

Services: The Sayre Outpatient Clinic provides Primary Care, Nursing, Social Work, Laboratory, Radiology, Psychiatric, Pharmacy, Nutrition, Optometry, Orthopedics, Podiatry, Voluntary, and Administrative/Eligibility services. Additional services include Vietnam Veterans Groups, Women Veterans medical//information services, one-to-one Diabetic instruction and group Diabetic Classes. 1-800 Dial-A-Refill Mail System, on-site Medication Counseling, Cardiac Teaching, and Veteran Benefits Counseling.

There is also a Telephone Liaison Care Program. Patients can call the clinic with questions they may have regarding their health care. This program improves access to VA Healthcare provided and reduces unnecessary clinic visits by having staff contact the veteran by telephone to review test results or changes in medication.

Directions: The new Sayre Clinic is located at 301 N. Elmira St., Sayre PA, which is located in Athens Township.

From points south, take Rt. 220 N to the Athens Business exit off the 4 lane. At the stop sign, turn right; at the first red light, turn left onto Elmira Street. The new VA Outpatient facility will be situated on the left side of the highway, approximately 1/3 mile.

From points north, take Rt. 17 S, to Rt. 220 S, exit #60. Follow Rt. 220 S to the Athens Business District exit; turn left at the stop sign and left again at the red light onto Elmira Street. The VA building will be on the left side of the roadway, approximately 1/3 mile from the intersection.
